GAUDIUM PRAHA Mixed Choir

The origins of GAUDIUM (Latin for “joy”) PRAHA date back to 1988 when Vladislav Souček and his wife Zdena Součková decided to establish an ensemble of their ex-pupils who grew out of children’s choir Radost Praha and wished to continue singing.

Since then, more than 250 singers have passed through GAUDIUM. They include beginners, who simply wish to join in, as well as people from various choirs who have eventually found a second family here.

The choir has performed hundreds of concerts in the Czech Republic and in Europe. For example, in 2023 they participated in the Alta Pusteria International Choir Festival in the Italian Dolomites. In June 2025, they attended an international choir festival in Kraków, Poland.

GAUDIUM collaborates with other choirs and musical ensembles, such as Piccolo Coro and Piccola Orchestra, the Libocky Cathedral Choir, Muzika Josefa Vycpálka, Camerata Praha, ŽKS Jirkov, Chorus Egrensis from Aš or Děčín Choir. Regularly, the choir supports charity events, such as those of the Jedlička Institute Foundation or the Olga Havlova Foundation.

The repertoire is extensive and includes around 250 “active” compositions and works of various genres, from sacred, renaissance to contemporary music, including classical choral works, spirituals, opera choruses, and folk songs.
